Our mission is to develop scholars who communicate well, are intellectually curious, and solve problems using different approaches. Our school uses inquiry-based learning to deepen scholars’ connections to the world around them. We provide a community that helps scholars feel safe, valued, and comfortable as they grow.
Pharos Academy shall become a thought-leader in creating school communities that responsibly educate children from underserved communities to develop and thrive in the world that they wish to live in tomorrow.

In 2005, Pharos Academy Charter School opened our doors in Community District 12 in the Bronx under the name Bronx Lighthouse Charter School. We began with the a commitment to our founding scholars to be a small school that casts a huge beacon of light and achievement in one of the lowest-performing school districts in New York City.
For more than a decade, we have remained inspired and steadfast in our mission. We have graduated and prepared over 300 Bronx scholars for college, career, and life. Today, this mission is still at the core of what we do as we look ahead to prepare our scholars for tomorrow's complex problems.
We are unapologetically committed to educating Bronx kids. Like all children, we believe that Bronx kids are unique and can achieve at high levels when challenged and loved. We are committed as a school community to providing our students with an outstanding education anchored in inquiry, interesting problems, rigor, and fun.
Our school is fueled by caring and dedicated adults who will stop at nothing to close all urban-education gaps; achievement, opportunity, access, STEM.
We fundamentally believe that urban students benefit from interacting and learning from a diverse group of adults. In addition to benefiting students, we think that heterogeneous teams outperform homogeneous teams in complex and dynamic environments like schools.
